Growing up with a parent whom experienced a stroke; I watched an incredible person relearn their day to day tasks with immense determination and succeed in so much. They taught me more than anyone will ever know and showed me that “where there’s a will there’s a way” in action. Unfortunately will can only go so far alone and others have to assist and while accepting help is important; the feeling of loss of independence is one of the worst feelings in the world. With each thing lost the worse the feeling can be. Finding any way to make it clear one still has their independence is vital. 

While I understood this to some to degree in all the big things in life I did not realize it for the little things. I use to buy jewelry for them and they never wore it regularly and it didn’t make sense why they couldn’t just ask for help if they actually wanted to wear it, not realizing that the most simplest task in their mind they couldn’t complete on their own. Any items that would help were to expensive or to difficult one handed still. With these pieces I hope to be able to give that small piece of independence to those that can benefit from such.
